California Citrus-Themed Styled Shoot

We’re going back in time again! To last January, my first styled shoot of the year. I had made it one of my 2020 goals to invest in more education and elevate my portfolio even further, specifically in bucket list locations.. Sadly, Covid had other plans, but I was able to sneak this one in right under the buzzer. I distinctly recall the murmurings about a virus overseas when we were getting ready to travel, but it would take another 6 weeks or so to realize the severity of it.

I coordinated the booking of this shoot with Branden and I’s winter getaway so that we could both travel to San Diego. And you guys, I would kill to be back in California again this January. I was so, so thankful we had this trip together and would’ve done a thousand more this past year. Maybe we just wouldn’t have left if we’d known Covid would shut everything down a few weeks later? Not a bad place to be isolated. It’s like, sunny ALL YEAR there? We spent our 4 days in Cali popping into museums, hitting up coffee shops and eateries, a Target or a Trader Joes here and there, and when we were at our adorable AirBnb, thoroughly enjoying the variety of American streaming services.

I was in awe of organizers of this shoot-out and the amazing vendors who put together the entire thing, it was a DREAM. And I even walked away from it with some new Californian instagram friends that I get to live vicariously through. After the shooting wrapped up, I met Branden at nearby (DYK: San Diego has the most breweries per capita, or something related to the words I just said) where we grabbed margaritas and fresh ceviche at happy hour, and walked around downtown SD as the sun went down. Remembering it all now is so bittersweet, but at least I have these stunning photos to look back on. Honourable mention goes to our model couple’s adorable daughter, who hung around during the shoot but made her appearance toward the end just in time to melt our hearts.

Ps. I know this a long one, but you wouldn’t BELIEVE how much narrowing down I actually had to do. Maybe that’s why it’s taken me a whole year. . . ?
