Vintage Car Los Angeles Engagement

Mulholland Drive at Sunset, xoxo

The Backstory: When Ginger and Jes first inquired with me about their downtown Toronto wedding (as Ginger is originally Canadian), I was already excited. When I learned they currently live in Los Angeles, California, ideas started buzzing. What could be better than capturing an engagement in LA? We werenโ€™t sure if it would initially be possible, and tentatively planned to do a local engagement here in Canada at some point during one of their visits. But I held out hope that we would be able to make an abroad session work. In addition to being a clearly photogenic couple, this bride happens to have some modelling experience, and both work in creative fields with a relation to film. Essentially, they have great taste, and collaborative creativity runs in their veins.

Why LA? The vibrant cityscapes, the iconic palm tree-lined streets, the without-fail perfect sunsets, whatโ€™s not to love? While Iโ€™ve been to California a few times (and love it deeply), LA and I have never crossed paths. Miraculously, one of my best friends happens to pop in for various work projects every now and then, and we knew that if I was free tag along during her next trip, we could make it work. Not only did my friend need to head to the sunshine towards the end of February for work, but other good friends of ours were there visiting at the exact same time. And, one of us was celebrating a 30th birthday. It was the most serendipitous combination of events, and I trip Iโ€™ll never forget.

Cut to this engagement, itโ€™s technically โ€œPart 2โ€. The couple and I had so many ideas to soak up all that the City of Angeles had to offer, that we couldnโ€™t narrow it down for one session. And so, we did two. One on Saturday, and one on Sunday. This, is Sunday. Truthfully the first engagement had even more content captured, that it is a sweet curse to try to narrow it down for a blog post, so weโ€™re starting with Sunday. You can find the other half of this weekend here, at The Valley Capri Shoot.

The inspiration behind these sessions was to tell a story, youโ€™ll notice the vintage suitcases make their way around all the locations we visit. It represents the great lengths (figuratively and literally) this couple had to experience in order to be together, and the lengths their loved ones will experience in order to celebrate with them all under one roof.

This chapter of that love story was told through a rented vintage convertible (is there any other kind?) and the tree-lined streets of Santa Monica. We will not be discussing how many other vehicles I needed to AI-out of the backgroundโ€ฆbut it was worth it. Then we took the car up to Mulholland Drive - another iconic setting - to catch the sun setting over the gorgeous pastel hills on an overlook of LA. Iโ€™m still pinching myself when I look at these photos, Iโ€™m so glad I have proof that it was in fact real.
